Twenty-Two Weeks In

Kass held the door open for the other girl, “It’s Becki, right? Sorry my head’s spinning from all the introductions earlier. Thank you again for the clothes you sent with Vinnie for me. The t-shirts are so cute, I wore the ‘do my shoes match’ shirt yesterday.” Kass was determined to act like a normal person for the rest of this day, at least while there were people here. After everyone left, she and Mat were going to finish that conversation, preferably prior to her losing her sanity.

Becki grinned at Kass, “I loved that one. I own like six pairs of ballet flats and I totally walked out of the house in a mismatched pair one day.”

“Oops.” Kass let out a little laugh and pointed to the rocking chair, “You can sit there if you like.”

“Thanks. This is such a nice chair.”

“It is. Mat gave it to me as a gift.” Kass fiddled with her ring. The encounter in the bathroom and seeing him half-naked more than once in the last twenty-four hours had her brain in a fog. Stupid Hormones...yeah that was all it was. But she wondered if that was really the case.

“You two make a nice couple.”

“Oh no, we’re not like that…not really.” Kass sputtered.

“Have you told him that?” Dara’s voice teased from the doorway. Becki giggled as she adjusted her clothes so she could feed her little one. “Did you want me to close the door for you, hun?”

“No. It’s fine. I’m not super shy about feeding him in public. I just didn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable out there.” Becki cooed at her little boy.

“He’s so cute. What’s his name?” Kass asked as she sat down on her bed, motioning for Dara to come sit down too.

“Tobias.” She answered, “I named him after his father, which is a long and sad story for another day.”

Kass felt her heart go out to the girl, her brain coming up with a million reasons why Tobias’s father wasn’t in his and Becki’s lives. All of those thoughts made her chest ache. Was she destined to have a similar line to offer when she was talking to her little one about Mat?

Kass resisted the urge to physically shake her head. She didn’t really think Mat was going to up and vanish on her after the baby was born even if they weren’t together. Together? Since when was that in her plans? Her hormones had her brain swinging between a love story or a love lost. Love?!? Oh no!

Attraction was on the table because he was attractive, but she wasn’t going to act on...She bit down on her lip thinking about how it felt being in bed with him this morning and how much she’d wanted him to kiss her a few minutes ago.
